Wanting to buy a horse, but found out he was a rescue and some horses had strangles. ive heard of it but dont?

Know much about strangles.he also hasn't had a coggins done or shots since last year. I currently don't have a horse so there wouldn't be any horse he would be around. I just wanted yalls opinion. He's a bargan and is beautiful. Thanks
