Should i be a wittness at court after my ex glassed me?

i was with my ex for three years,i have two children from a previous marriage.i met him not long after my split with my husband.after about 6 months he was evicted from his flat for not paying rent so i said he could stay with us until he found somewhere to live.he gave me �60 a week.after a few weeks he slapped me around the face for the first time and things got worse from there,he has hit,punched,strangled me,ripped my hair out,spat on me,poured cans of beer over my head,thrown food and drinks in my face and ripped my clothes off me...worse than that is the verbal abuse,i have never known such mean things come from a person.about a month and a half ago he picked up a glass and went to hit it over my head,luckily i lifted my arm in time and he got my arm instead then he left.after i mopped up the blood and tried to sort my arm a bit i rang the police,he was arrested i have not had any contacted with him since,i have felt ok so far but i am to be in court as a witness this week and it is bringing it all back,i feel up sett,scared,silly and ashamed,i don't want to go.i cant seem to get over this and i don't know what to do for the best any advice would be great.he has denied everything.....as always.....and has blamed it all on me.
